A lesson in Branding

In 1991, I incorporated 2 companies i.e KarenSoft Sdn Bhd and CCH Software Solutions Sdn Bhd (CCHSS) . KarenSoft Sdn Bhd was the Software Engineering arm while CCHSS was the marketing and implementation arm.

By 1996, we were already well-known for our KarenSoft Fixed Assets for DOS as well has KarenSoft HRIS for DOS comprising Payroll Management, Human Resources Management as well as Time Management.

Sometime in 1997, we were invited by Franklin Porcelain Sdn Bhd, an American-owned company based in Kulim Industrial Estate to present our HRIS solution. We arrive punctually at 9:00 am only to be told to wait. At 9:30 am, we were again told to wait. Finally, we were told that the evaluation team was waiting for the 'KarenSoft' people to show up. Hey ! We are the KarenSoft people. Apparently, they did not realise that CCHSS was the people behind KarenSoft HRIS.

Guess what ? The moment I got back to our office, I called the Corporate Secretary and asked for CCHSS to be changed to KarenSoft Solutions Sdn Bhd and the name change took place on 11 December 1996.
